OCR: AM/FM LETTERS TO AM/FM AM/FM Hello, AM/FM Since my two passions in life are music and computers, I was happily surprised when your magazine was uploaded to my BBS. Great, I thought, and plugged the disk into my Amiga 3000. Everything starts out fine, your logo looks really nice, especially flicker fixed. Reaching the "magazine itself"-menu also works great. The problems start when I want to return from an article to the mentioned menu. A guru appears (#00000006.07F17988, under KS1.3). it shouldn't have to be this way though, due to that AM/FM is a proper DOS-disk and you use "friendly" packers such as PP. That Guru is the only problem of it's kind. Another problem though, which often appears when I try to reach the Utilities Section, is when I can't see anything?! It doesn't crash, I'm able to press F1, F2 or F3, but there is nothing on the screen...? Of course I can live with these problems, but I suppose that you would be glad if all Amiga owners could use your magazine. Thanks for a very good project. Mattias Dahlberg, Sweden. Dear Mattias, Unfortunately, we noticed just after releasing issue #1 that the menu program we used doesn't work properly on Amiga 3000. We used "system friendly" programs wherever possible in order to make sure it would work on all models and configurations, so we were very disappointed when we heard that it didn't work on the 3000. We apologise to everyone with 3000's and hope that this issue works better, with our brand new custom-made menu system. If there still are some problems, please report them to us as soon as possible! AM/FM Dear AM/FM, I've got a Roland D110 and am quite satisfied, but there is a lot of noise on the audio-outputs (it sounds even noisier than on my good ol' Amiga!?). I've heard that a company called Real World Interfaces claim that they can improve the S/N-ratio with 2.2 db and the gain with 5.4 db. I wonder if you or your readers could come up with more info on this?! Is it really true? Would a ROM rev-up help? (Serial#929908) I am considering buying sequencer and patch editing software for the D110. I'm familiar with KCS1.6, but I know there is a lot of new sequencers out with lots of new exciting functions. I'd prefer a sequencer with drumediting, a good eventlist editor, Midifileformat- compatibility, algorithmic composing and an Amigaish Ituition environment. What is best buy these days? Sincerely, Ola Fosheim Grᵒstad 2966 Slidre Norway Dear Ola, There are a number of sequencers and patch editors out there, KCS as you mentioned being one of the more "solid" ones. However, as far as I know, it doesn't have any patch editing functions, and you would have to get Dr. I's X-Or in addition. The only sequencer-package which I know have built-in patch editing/storing facitlities is Music-X. It doesn't have separate drum-editing, but it has a nice "Amigaish" user interface, graphic- and event editing, and it is Midifileformat compatible (by use of a converter-program that comes with Music-X). There are also many other good sequencers, like Steinberg Pro 24, Bars & Pipes Professional, etc. If algoritmic composing is imortant to you, you should also have a closer look at the package "M". However, I don't know of any sequencer package that has all the features you mentioned. If any readers would like to enlighten us, please do! As for your problem with the D110, I can do nothing but pass it on to the readers. Anyone? AM/FM Dear AM/FM, It was about time someone stood up for us musicians! More please! I wouldn't mind a few more articles per issue, though. Good luck! Craig Rhodes, UK Dear Craig, Thanks! As you will notice, this issue has more articles than the first one had. It's really just a matter of how much support we get from our readers and contributors. Hopefully we will do even better next time - but diskspace is limited, and if there is more of something there will have to be less of something else. Let's hear from you readers what there should be more of and what there should be less of! AM/FM
